Jingya Liu
(she/her)
Education: RP (Qualifying)
Background: Jingya is a student in the Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology at Yorkville University, completing her practicum placement under the supervision of Justin Goddard, MA, EdD (in progress), RP.
Jingya has a background in science and business, she brings a balanced lens that values both emotional insight and practical thinking. Her interest in mental health grew from a belief that psychological well-being is as vital as physical health especially in a fast-moving world where inner needs are often overlooked. She has several years of experience as a crisis line responder, where she was deeply moved by people’s quiet resilience. These conversations continue to shape her therapeutic presence. As a bilingual Chinese-Canadian, Jingya is sensitive to issues of culture, identity, and belonging. She approaches each client with openness, curiosity, and a strong commitment to cultural humility.
Perspective: Jingya’s developing approach is relational, collaborative, and rooted in curiosity about each person’s inner experience. She values emotional safety, cultural humility, and client voice, and brings a strong interest in how culture and identity shape our stories and emotional lives. Through her practicum and supervision, she is exploring approaches including cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT), solution-focused brief therapy (SFBT), narrative therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and emotion-focused therapy (EFT). She is also drawn to psychodynamic perspectives that explore how early relationships influence current patterns.
Jingya is available in-person at 353 Church St.
