Joy Wang
(she/her)
Education: Student in Master of Education in Counselling Psychology at the University of Toronto
Background: Joy is a student in the Master of Education in Counselling Psychology at the University of Toronto, completing her practicum placement under the supervision of Daniel Pauly, Ed.D, RP.
Joy’s experience spans crisis response, peer support, hospice care, and psychiatric research. She has supported individuals navigating academic stress, relationship challenges, immigration, and mood-related concerns. Her work in editing psychological reports for refugee claimants and conducting research on self-harm in youth has further informed her understanding of how social context and mental health intersect. These roles have highlighted the diverse psychosocial factors that contribute to well-being, which she aims to make space for and explore collaboratively in session.
Perspective: Joy believes that each person holds an inner capacity for growth and resilience. She works collaboratively with clients to bring these strengths to light, honour their lived experiences, and explore ways clients can cope more effectively. As an Asian-Canadian immigrant, Joy understands that conversations around mental health can sometimes feel unfamiliar, raw, or out of place. She is committed to creating a space rooted in safety, autonomy, and non-judgment—where clients can explore difficult emotions, deepen self-understanding, and move towards a life aligned with their values and hopes.
Joy is available in-person at 489 College St., #206 (College and Bathurst)
